CHURCHILL

CHURCHILL: VICTORY SIGN

12 feet x 8 feet

The artist’s work on Sir Winston Churchill was sponsored by a Norwegian diplomat, Marius Hauge, whose father, Jens Christian Hauge, was the legendary leader of The Norwegian Resistance during World War 2.

Jens Christian Hauge was a confidant of Churchill and, as Norway’s first post war Defense Minister, a leading advocate of The Atlantic Charter.

Very early in the artist’s career, Marius Hauge sponsored Van Armstrong’s first experiments with monumental portraiture - a series of giant portrait heads of Old Time heavyweight champion, Sonny Liston.
